80’s fitness, Wonder Woman, and soon to be Jedi
We have started some great theme nights here at the Cove. The first being 80’s fitness night where I got to rock an awesome side pony and sweatband with all the best 80’s music playing. Next was Super Hero Night where the promotions team got to wear costumes and I was Wonder Woman for the night. My only complaint is that her boots kept falling down on me…slightly annoying.
Next up Star Wars night. I digress I have never sat through a full Star Wars movie. Let’s just say it’s not my thing. However I do get to be a Jedi, apparently they are pretty cool, so that should be exciting. Star Wars night is the 8th of July.
Then the 21st of July, a night I could not be more excited about, Pirate Night. I am a huge Pirates of the Caribbean fan and this is a promotions night that I get to run point on. I could not be more excited for what is in store for the fans, it will be a good show for sure! We may even have a mutiny…
With Emily leaving…not happy…I will be taking over the game scripts again as well as some other added responsibilities which I am looking forward to.
Wish me luck!

When the team is away the staff will…plan the next home stand
The 13 game home stand is finally over and the team is on the road for the next week plus…and contrary to player belief the staff does not get every day that the team is on the road off…we are busy planning the next home stand and let me tell ya it will be a fun one! Fitness Night on the 17th, a bobble head give away on the 18th, and Father’s Day on the 19th!
Come down to the Cove where things are going to get crazy…in a good way of course…

13 Days
We are in the middle of a 13 game home stand and needless to say it has been interesting! We have added some great staff members and interns, tried out some new contests, and have had some great wins!
We are now above .500 and the team is playing great…which always makes going to work even more fun than it already is.
Fireworks nights are awesome and I love getting up on the dugouts and shakin my groove thang…no matter how silly I look
Be sure to come to a game and I promise we won’t disappoint!
Good-Bye
I knew when I got into this position that there would be guys moving up and down. What I didn’t expect is that I would make friends with the guys and then when they left it would make me sad. Keon was the first to go. His luggage was just recently send out from the office as he got moved up to Visalia while the team was on the road. Then Kable was the next to go. He was moved back to extended spring training. I hung out with him his last night in South Bend and it was sad to see him go, not only because he was leaving but because he was leaving and not moving up. Brian was the most recent to move up and he is such a great guy he will be missed.
It’s easy to understand that guys will move up or down as that is the nature of the business but it’s not really easy to say good-bye.
Frustration
It’s true I’m only an intern but that doesn’t mean that a Silver Hawks loss is any less frustrating! I love our team; I like the players, the coaches, the staff but I hate the losses.
I feel like our team does a lot of great things on the field. We have the bats we have the fielding we have the pitching, but we have trouble getting them all put together consistently. We are 5-13 right now but I have faith that our guys can turn it around.
Patience is a virtue, I just have to remember that.

A lesson in thick skin…
When our GM sat us down a few days a go and gave us a lesson in thick skin when it comes to communicating to each other and having others communicate with us.
I though, yeah, she’s right. I need to be strong enough to tell my bosses and peers when they are doing something that I don’t agree with or have a difference of opinion with.
I thought, I also need to have thick skin to take the criticism from others.
I thought, when the time comes that one of these situations comes about I’ll remember to have thick skin and I’ll be ok.
What I didn’t think was that I would have to use my new outlook on thick skin a mere 2 days later. What I didn’t realize was as much as I love my job and love working in sports, there seems to be a stigma to women who work in sports. Especially a male sport. After talking with my boss and doing a little crying (hey thick skin doesn’t mean a girl can’t cry), I’ve decided to use that wisdom on thick skin given to me by my GM and not let comments get to me. I have been assured that I don’t need to change anything about the way I am, I just need to be aware that I may be different than some people and I need to give people time to get to know me and who I am and what I’m about…and I’m ok with that.
I’m grateful for this experience I had. Some could turn it into a negative, however I think of it as a great lesson. Internships are all about learning not only the job but everything else that comes with it, and if I’m going to continue to work in sports I’m glad that I got my lesson in thick skin now in an organization that not only cares about the business of baseball but cares about the people that help make this place great.

Yeah…I have the best job ever!
Monday night was our first home game of the season and while it was cold I HAD A BLAST! Promotions down on the field went pretty well and we have made the few adjustments we needed to get things running smoother. I almost forgot how much I love baseball but being around it all day every day has renewed my spirit.
Tuesday was our first Silver Sluggers game. The Silver Slugger are our official +55 club for the Silver Hawks and I am in charge of the group. We had a little social in the owners suite and some of our players came up. They were very happy that Lynn our GM allowed them to stay in the owners suite the whole game as it was again another chilly night in April.
Today, was the first player appearance. Now the last person to have my internship said that the players are usually late so to schedule them to be there 30 minutes before the appearance. When I got to the place of the appearance the guys were already there which made my life easier. SHOUT OUT TO PATRICK AND DAVID! So on to today’s game. Gates open in 1.5 hours and I have everything together that needs to be together. Looking forward to tonight!
General question…is it healthy to live off of applesauce and donuts?

Baseball, and fans, 4 days OH MY!
Our first home game of the season is just a mere 4 days away! While I feel that we are doing pretty well with things being organized and last nights season ticket holder party went off without a hitch, I am FREAKING OUT that once that fabulous day comes for our first game I will have no idea what I am doing.
Yesterday our GM sent an email to the office to just breathe, and you can definitely tell that anxiety is all around the office. With the amount of stress in the office I fear that my bouncing off the walls/annoyingly positive attitude may be irritating my office mates even more than usual, but I digress.
4 days till baseball, 4 days till fans, 4 days till we find out if I will stay sane for the next 69 home games…wish me luck!
Peace. Love. & Baseball.
